Iran's staple food imports via ports increase by 22%

Iran imported 1.606 million tons of staple food products through ports during the last calendar month (ended Dec. 21).

The figure indicates a rise by 22 percent compared to the preceding month, according to the data released by Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization.â??

The food products mentioned in the report include wheat, barley, butter, soy, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and meat â??products.

â??The country loaded and unloaded 1.662 million tons of food products at its ports in the one-month period, indicating a 14.8 percent fall year-on-year.

In the meantime, the country exported 56,458 tons of staple food products through the organization's ports.

According the report, 14 ports including Abadan, Arvandkenar, Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, Anzali, Bushehr, Jask, Chabahar, Chavibdeh, Khorramshahr, Shahid Bahonar, Qeshm, Lengeh and Noshahr were involved in staple food products loading/unloading during the period.

The report also unveils that over 323,496 tons of fertilizers and chemicals were also loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports, which was 21.7 percent more compared to the same month of preceding year. The volume of the unloaded fertilizers and chemicals was 72,116 tons in the one-month period from Nov. 21 to Dec. 21.

Iranian ports saw loading and unloading of a total of 5.994 million tons of various goods and commodities, including food and metal products between Nov. 21 to Dec. 21, 51.4 percent less year-on-year.

In Total, over 114 million tons of various goods were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports during the current fiscal year.

The volume is 0.9 percent less than the loaded/unloaded products in the same period of preceding year (started March 20, 2016).
