Over a hundred of coffee producers in the province recently attended the first-ever Coffee Business Forum with the theme, Quirino Coffee: Brewing for Unity and Prosperity as one of the highlights of the 47th Quirino Day and Panagdadapun Festival.

In their messages, both Governor Junie Cua and Provincial Tourism Council Chairman Maria Angela Cua said that coffee farming is one of the solutions to fight poverty. Both of them also expressed confidence that by improving the economic condition of the farmers in the countryside the province will be able to attain its goal to become an Agro-Industrial Hub in the country.

Coffee farmers should not just aim to plant coffee trees, they should add value to their products by processing them into expensive coffee , Cua said, as he highlighted the need to develop the entrepreneurial spirit among the farmers.

Cua urged coffee producers to work hard for the improvement of their products. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Agriculture (DA) in providing their training needs.

For her part, DTI provincial Director Ma. Sofia Narag said Quirino has the first and the only demo-farm in the entire Cagayan Valley region and most number of coffee brands exhibited during 2nd Cagayan Valley Coffee Business Forum and Brand Launching in the City of Ilagan recently.

Meanwhile, DA Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Rose Mary G. Aquino who served as the guest speaker, batted for the improvement of tourism related projects highlighting the coffee industry by motivating the farmers to introduce something that is unique or that can only be seen in the province.

Aquino assured that DA-RO2 will help in developing the Quirino Experiment Station as an agritourism site with coffee industry as one of the highlights. She also hinted of putting up a big mug in the area similar to the cattle monument built at the entrance of the QES to symbolize the flourishing coffee industry of the province.
