Russian Federation : Business in the Far East needs to be supported

Aug 10, 2018 (Euclid Infotech Ltd via COMTEX) --

The implementation of major investment projects and business support was discussed by the participants in the meeting of the Government Commission on the socio-economic development of the Far East and the Baikal region, held in the Kamchatka Territory under the leadership of the Chairman of the Government of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

"Now in the Far East, several dozens of large investment projects are being implemented, more than 30, including gas and petrochemical complexes, the largest shipyard, gold ore and coal deposits, livestock farms, transshipment hubs. In fact, some of these projects are laying new branches in the region's economy. We all understand the specifics of business development in the Far East these are huge distances, severe climatic conditions, underdeveloped energy networks. Therefore, business here needs state support, including in the preparatory work to create infrastructure, to allocate land, to connect power, "said Dmitry Medvedev.

In the morning, the Chairman of the Government held a separate meeting on the establishment of a marine complex for LNG transshipment in the Kamchatka Krai. The Prime Minister noted that in the Far East "some other projects are coming to the end", within the framework of which "some objects are already ready for work, some are just being built." "It is clear that taking into account the scale and complexity of the construction projects at any stage of the project, questions may arise that require attention and support," he explained. At the same time, the prime minister believes that "any state support should be point-based, the state can not and should not insure business, take upon itself its risks."

Particular attention was paid by Dmitry Medvedev to the support of small and medium-sized businesses. "Behind these large construction projects, megastructures, one should not forget about small companies that are engaged in trade or services. The task of the governors and Minvostokrazvitie is to provide small and medium-sized businesses with all the necessary assistance, "he stressed.

Recall that the meeting of the Government Commission was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister Head of the Staff of the Government of the Russian Federation Konstantin Chuichenko, Minister for Development of the Far East Alexander Kozlov, Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva, Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich, Minister for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters Evgeny Zinichev, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, heads of regions, heads of enterprises.
