Turkmenistan's Drive For Export Growth And Import Substitution Intensifies

(MENAFN - Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 1. Turkmenistan isstriving to increase the volume of exports to foreign countries aswell as the production of import-substituting products, Trend reports.

According to the official source, this was said during a meetingof representatives of the State Plant Quarantine Service of theMinistry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, the State Association ofthe Livestock and Poultry Industry, Turkmenstandardlary Main StateService, Turkmenistan Railway and Turkmenistan Airlines, theTransport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan JSC, representativesof a number of transport and logistics companies, specialists fromthe from the Ashgabat City Committee of the Union of Industrialistsand Entrepreneurs, as well as private entrepreneurs.

A question concerning the implementation of state programs toboost exports and create import-substituting goods, as well as theactions of Turkmenistan's State Customs Service to encourage thegrowth of the nation's export potential, was raised during themeeting.

In this regard, the agenda of the meeting included innovationsin customs legislation as well as topical issues related to theimplementation of foreign economic activity.

Customs officials provided detailed information on the benefitsprovided by law for domestic exporters as well as on the prospectsfor switching to paperless customs clearance in connection with theimplementation of the 'Single Window for Export-Import Operations'project.

Meanwhile, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan hassuccessfully implemented the 1st stage of digitalization, includingthe electronic declaration of the UNCTAD Automated System forCustoms Data (ASYCUDA), and is effectively working on the 2ndstage, the development of a 'Single Window' for export-importoperations.

The proposals developed by the UN Conference on Trade andDevelopment (UNCTAD) for the implementation of the third stage ofdigitalization of customs authorities in Turkmenistan wereconsidered at a recent meeting of representatives of the customsservice and UNCTAD.
