Ammonium Thiosulphate (ATS) Market: Industry Giants will set new High for upcoming Years

Apr 28, 2021 (Market Insight Reports) --

Ammonium Thiosulphate (ATS) is an inorganic chemical that finds extensive application in the manufacture liquid fertilizers used in agricultural crops. Ammonium Thiosulphate fertilizers consist of two basic elements, namely, Nitrogen and Sulfur. These elements are said to helps crops with protein synthesis and further enhance nitrogen efficiency in them. Sulfur being main component of proteins, amino acids, and peptides, ATS aids in synthesis of different proteins and also increases the yield of the crops.

In general, ATS is used as an aqueous solution, containing 26% sulfur and 12% nitrogen. It is used in the production of many row crops such as maize, soybean, corn, cotton, millet, beans, wheat, and others, mostly in combination with other liquid fertilizers. ATS thus finds usage in vegetable crops, such as spinach, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, melon, and others. Other applications include trees, vines, and alfalfa.

Global Ammonium Thiosulphate (ATS) Market Dynamics

Escalating demand for ATS across the global fertilizers industry is projected to drive the global ammonium thiosulphate market growth over the forecast period. According to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), in 2017, the global demand for fertilizer nutrients, including sulfur, nitrogen, potash, and phosphates, had increased from 184 Kilo tons to 191 Kilo tons.

Excessive usage of chemical fertilizers to increase the crop yield leads to soil degradation. Moreover, certain fertilizers make ground water poisonous and might create dead zones in the oceans. For instance, the Gulf of Mexico has ocean dead zone, wherein there is no biological activity due to leaching of fertilizers in water bodies and are further transferred to the ocean. Such factors are expected to restrain the growth of the global ammonium thiosulphate fertilizers market in the next few years.

Global Ammonium Thiosulphate (ATS) Market - Regional Analysis

Asia Pacific accumulated a major share in the global ammonium thiosulphate market in 2018. Rising demand for food grains and vegetables from countries in Asia Pacific, owing to the growing population in the region, is a significant driving factor for the ammonium thiosulphate market growth in Asia Pacific. According to a research study by the Asian Development Bank, Asia Pacific is expected to account for 1/3rd of the projected 2.6 billion increase in global population during 2010 and 2050, thus requiring additional efforts to increase the productivity of crops to serve rising population.

Rising food grain production in India is expected to be a major driver for growth of the ammonium thiosulphate fertilizer market in the country. For instance, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), during the crop year 2017-18, food grain production was 285.84 million tons and the government is estimating production to reach 285.2 million tons in the current crop year (2018-2019).

Furthermore, North America would observe significant growth in the global ammonium thiosulphate market, owing to the extensive use of ATS in crops like soybean and corn, particularly in the U.S. Soybean and corn are majorly produced crops in the U.S. Ammonium Thiosulphate facilitates sulfur and nitrogen, which are considered vital for the growth of these crops. In 2017, the United States Department of Agriculture reported that corn yield in the U.S. was valued at 176.6 bushels per acre, while soybean yield was 4.39 billion bushels.
