Appeals to stop 'slow motion Juukan Gorge' in WA

Western Australia's former premier Carmen Lawrence is among those to have urged the state government to consider halting further industrial development on the Burrup Peninsula to protect ancient indigenous rock art. Conservation groups also want a moratorium on resources projects in the region, following revelations that the impact of industrial emissions on the rock art has not been actively monitored since 2016. Woodside Petroleum and Rio Tinto are among the companies that have projects in the region. There is also growing opposition to Woodside's proposed Scarborough gas project due to its potential impact on the rock art..
