Australian agricultural associations that rake in millions should have charitable status revoked, tax expert says

Tax expert Professor Ann O'Connell of Melbourne University has queried whether Co-operative Bulk Handling Ltd (CBH) and Queensland Sugar Limited should still be classed as charities. The two agricultural associations are among Australia's biggest charities, with the key requirement to be recognised as a charity is that the organisation in question is operated for public benefit. O'Connell says whether CBH and Queensland Sugar provide enough public benefit to justify their charitable status is questionable..
