Jun 08, 2026 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Prior to the 2022 federal election, Anthony Albanese did a deal with unions - including the CFMEU - to introduce industrial relations reforms that would enable them to potentially have a key role in the management of nearly every enterprise in the country. A top priority for unions was using the so-called 'CFMEU rules' to regain control of Pilbara iron ore mines. BHP's new CEO Brandon Craig now wants to expand the Olympic Dam copper, gold and uranium mine in South Australia; to do so, he will need a workable industrial relations agreement which does not operate on 'CFMEU rules'. The stance of Craig and Rio Tinto CEO Simon Trott will be central to preventing 'CFMEU rules' to spread across Australia, including the already over-budget Snowy 2.0 project..
