USDA - AMS: Fluid Milk and Cream Review - East (2021-07-16)

USDA U.S. Department of Agriculture - July 16, 2021

Fluid Milk and Cream - Eastern U.S.

     Report 28 - Released on July 14, 2021

Northeast milk output is slightly declining off farms. Milk supplies remain available for
processing needs. Class I sales are lower currently. Some balancing plants are receiving
added milk loads for additional operating schedules. In addition, cheese manufacturers are
running through a healthy supply of milk. Substantial rain downpours are causing flash flood
advisories in areas of the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic regions. Mid-Atlantic milk production is
shifting downward. Class I sales are fairly flat. Regional farmers are applying herbicides
to soybean fields at this time. Southeast milk production is down. Milk managers continue to
be busy with milk cuts/add-ons. Additional milk loads are clearing to Class II/III
operations in the Southeast. Trucking and freight challenges continue to affect the dairy
industry. Milk output in Florida is still slightly dropping. There are reports educational
institutions will start to rebuild milk pipelines for the school year. Cream markets are
steady/slower this week. Some butter operations are churning in-house cream supplies,
although other plants are selling cream in lieu of churning. Some ice cream makers are past
peak and reportedly shortening production schedules. Condensed skim trading activities are
mostly steady. Market participants note a substantial supply of condensed skim is available
     for spot/contract demands.
