Tripel Karmeliet Alcohol-Free is brewed with the same characteristic ingredients as the classic Tripel Karmeliet, including barley, oats, wheat, and a selected mix of herbs.
AB InBev is taking a new step in alcohol-free beer innovation with the launch of Tripel Karmeliet alcohol-free, a 0.4% ABV beer that maintains the authentic taste and complexity of Tripel Karmeliet. The beer premiered last weekend at the Horeca Expo in Ghent. Starting in January 2026, it will be available in on-trade and retail outlets in Belgium, followed by the Netherlands and later France.
Tripel Karmeliet Alcohol-Free is brewed with the same signature ingredients as the classic Tripel Karmeliet: three grains—barley, oats, and wheat—and a carefully selected blend of herbs. The result is a rich and full-bodied beer that, despite its low alcohol content, remains true to the character of Tripel Karmeliet.
The key to this innovation is a new, "smart yeast" developed at the AB InBev Global Innovation & Technology Center in Leuven. This yeast ferments only simple sugars like glucose and fructose, but not the more complex sugars maltose and maltotriose. As a result, only a minimal amount of alcohol is produced, while the yeast still enables complete fermentation and rich flavor development. This is perfect for brewing beers with more complex aromas, without the need for dealcoholization.
With Tripel Karmeliet alcohol-free, AB InBev is further expanding its range of alcohol-free beers in Belgium. It is now the eighth alcohol-free beer that the brewer has introduced on the Belgian market.
