The Australian sharemarket edged lower on Thursday, amid growing tensions between the US and Iran, as well as heightened expectations of an interest rate rise next week; the S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.072 per cent lower at 8,927.5 points. Lynas Rare Earths was down 3.7 per cent at $15.60, AMP fell 4.8 per cent to $1.64 and JB Hi-Fi retreated 2.3 per cent to finish at $81.50. However, gold and copper producers rallied after the price of both metals reached new highs, with Evolution Mining up three per cent at $15.72 and Capstone Copper adding 4.7 per cent to end the sssion at $17.54..
