Advantech Launches RTXe Standard SOM for Industrial Applications

Jan 30, 2026 (MarketLine via COMTEX) --

The RTX standard defines specifications for embedded computer modules intended for harsh environments.

The RTX standard is a set of specifications for embedded computer modules designed for harsh environments. It was jointly released in 2015 by Advantech's RISC team in collaboration with multiple embedded industry partners, including Arm, NXP, and TI. Compared to other common standards, RTX replaces traditional gold-finger interfaces with board-to-board connectors, significantly enhancing the module's resistance to vibration, oxidation, and corrosion. Based on this standard, Advantech has successively launched multiple high-performance core modules, including the ROM-3310 released in 2015 and the ROM-3620 introduced in 2021, widely applied in railways, trucks, medical equipment, and other fields.

Upgraded RTXe Standard for Enhanced Shock Resistance

As edge computing requires higher performance and more I/O interfaces, Advantech introduces the upgraded RTXe standard. It utilizes the same B2B connectors as COMe and meets EIA-364 series shock and vibration standards, with core modules capable of withstanding vibration energy levels up to 3.5 Grms. This makes it suitable for demanding industrial or vehicle-mounted applications. Additionally, the RTXe PCB features a 2.0mm thickness, further enhancing the module's resistance to bending and vibration.

Standardized Design with Flexible Expansion

Compared to traditional SOM, RTXe's defining feature is its flexibility. Its 2x220 pin design routes native SoC signals directly to the backplane, preserving flexibility to implement various SoC-defined functions. Its compact 77 x 65 mm form factor enables flexible deployment in space-constrained applications. For interfaces, it supports PCIe 3.0 or 4.0, providing diverse expansion options on the baseboard to meet diverse industry application requirements.

New Breakthrough in Edge AI Performance

Advantech proudly unveils two RTXe modules based on Rockchip platforms, the AOM-3821 and AOM-3841. The AOM-3821 features a Rockchip RK3588 processor with 4 Cortex-A76 cores and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, integrating 6 TOPS of NPU computing power. It also supports dual MIPI-CSI and HDMI-IN, enabling ultra-high-definition video capture and handling complex scenarios with ease.

The AOM-3841 is powered by the Rockchip RK3576, integrating multiple display interfaces including DP, HDMI, and MIPI DSI, along with 3 x MIPI-CSI and 2 x CAN bus interfaces. This provides a complete, low-power, high-performance solution for next-generation industrial and smart applications.

Notably, both products are pin-compatible and can be used with the same carrier board. Customers can flexibly select products based on their performance requirements. During subsequent design phases, seamless switching is possible by consulting the pin difference comparison table, enabling rapid implementation of differentiated deployments.

Applications

With their stable and reliable design, along with powerful computing performance, the AOM-3821 and AOM-3841 have been tested and deployed in numerous high-speed train projects and railway monitoring systems. Both solutions are now in mass production.
