Mar 16, 2025 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The developing nation of Timor-Leste has been issuing mining licences since 2023 as it seeks to diversify its economy away from a heavy reliance on its dwindling oil and gas revenues. It has issued five mining licences to date, with four of the five licences being issued to Australian companies, including Beacon Minerals and the Darwin-headquartered Tivan. The exploration package that Tivan has been given targets gold and copper, while other minerals that Timor-Leste is thought to hold deposits of include zinc, manganese and rare earths.
