BHP has advised that Ross McEwan will succeed Ken MacKenzie as chairman at the end of March. MacKenzie has been in the role for just over eight years; deals made during his tenure included BHP's acquisition of OZ Minerals, an unsuccessful bid for Anglo American and the merger of the petroleum division with Woodside Energy. Meanwhile, McEwan has indicated that he will prioritise "generating long-term value" for BHP shareholders; he joined BHP's board in 2024, having stepped down as the CEO of National Australia Bank earlier in that year. BHP is now likely to shift its focus to finding an eventual successor to CEO Mike Henry, who has been at the helm for six years..
