The regasification facility is expected to be operational by 2030.
Taiwan-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) group CTCI has secured a T$29.6bn ($968m) contract from state-owned oil company CPC to build a regasification facility at the Kaohsiung Intercontinental liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in southern Taiwan.
This contract award follows CTCIaEUR(TM)s previous engagement in constructing LNG storage tanks for the same terminal in 2024.
The new facility at the Kaohsiung LNG terminal will play a pivotal role in converting LNG from four 180,000 kilolitre cryogenic tanks into gaseous-state natural gas.
With an output of 1,600 tonnes per hour, the facility is expected to be operational by 2030, bolstering the resilience of natural gas supply across Taiwan.
Amidst a growing requirement for LNG due to economic growth, AI infrastructure power needs, and a shift towards decarbonised or low-carbon power generation, this regasification facility is set to contribute to the nation's energy stability.
CTCI chairman Michael Yang said: aEURoeWe appreciate that CPC Corporation has further entrusted CTCI with the Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG receiving terminal project.
aEURoeThe construction of LNG storage tanks at the terminal is currently at full speed. For the regasification facility, CTCI will leverage green and intelligent technologies to save energy, cut carbon emissions and make construction more time-efficient. We look forward to working with CPC Corp. to achieve the national energy security goal.aEUR
The utilisation of seawater to heat the cryogenic LNG at -162AC into a gaseous state and the recovery of cold energy for air conditioning within the facility underscore its sustainable design.
CTCI's use of a proprietary pipeline-cleaning robot and a pipeline flange bolt fastening module system addresses intricate construction challenges, improving quality, efficiency and safety.
As natural gas becomes the dominant source for power generation in Taiwan, the construction of new LNG terminals is being prioritised to reduce carbon emissions from electricity.
Having contributed to the engineering and construction of all operating LNG receiving terminals in Taiwan, CTCI's global footprint includes 11 LNG terminal projects.
These projects span India, China, Taiwan and Thailand, collectively adding 40 million tonnes per annum to global LNG supply capacity.
