Sep 24, 2025 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the nation's headline inflation rate rose to three per cent in August, compared with 2.8 per cent in July. The 24.6 per cent rise in electricity prices in the year to August was a key driver of the rise in inflation, after government energy rebates in several states expired; the federal government's own energy bill relief will end in December. The Reserve Bank's preferred measure of underlying inflation eased to 2.6 per cent in August; economists say this suggests that there will be at least one more interest rate cut before the end of 2025. However, the rise in headline inflation is likely to rule out a rate cut in October..
