The Coalition will ramp up its campaigning on the cost-of-living crisis in the final days of the federal election. The International Monetary Fund's recently forecast that Australia's inflation rate will rise to 3.5 per cent in 2026, prompting Opposition leader Peter Dutton to warn that the cost of grocery staples, electricity and rental housing will keep rising if Labor is returned to office. Dutton says Australia has gone backwards under Labor, and it will only get worse if the party has another term in office. Meanwhile, the Coalition has highlighted the rising levels of mortgage stress under Labor, with Liberal senator Andrew Bragg noting that the average mortgage payment has risen by nearly $2,000 a month since 2022..
