Leaders of EAtvAs LorAind University and the Regulatory Activities Supervisory Authority met on February 6, 2026 to discuss continuing and extending cooperation with ELTE's Faculty of Science in education, research, and sustainability.
On February 6, 2026, the leaders of Eötvös Loránd University and the Regulatory Activities Supervisory Authority discussed the continuation of the existing professional cooperation with the Faculty of Natural Sciences of ELTE and the possibilities of expanding it at the university level, with particular attention to the areas of education, research and sustainability.
The SZTFH was represented by Bence Gonda, Vice President for Strategy, and Dr. Tamás Fancsik , Director of the Geological Service. ELTE was represented by Dr. Judit Mádlné, Vice-Rector General, Dr. Imre Kacskovics , Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Dr. Ferenc Molnár , Head of Department and Faculty Contact Person for the Cooperation.
Bence Gonda emphasized that Eötvös Loránd University - especially the Faculty of Natural Sciences - is a strategic partner of the SZTFH in carrying out state geological tasks, which was also confirmed by the university.
The meeting reviewed the program elements planned for 2026 of the cooperation agreement concluded between the SZTFH and the Faculty of Natural Sciences in 2023 , which were presented by Dr. Ferenc Molnár. This year, the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences and the SZTFH Geological Service can achieve significant professional synergies by closely coordinating research activities, thereby further strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of both organizations.
It was concluded that the cooperation is already substantial: the provision of field exercises and internships, as well as the support of geologists and geophysicists' training, will continue in the future, building on the best practices of previous years. The possibility of announcing scholarship programs supported by the SZTFH, as well as extending the partnership to include master's theses and doctoral research, was raised during the discussion.
The parties highlighted the strategic importance of the university's third mission activity for the innovation efforts of state agencies and companies involved in raw materials research and geothermal energy. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of finding optimal forms of cooperation and making companies interested in cooperation with universities.
The SZTFH considers the close cooperation with the Faculty of Natural Sciences of ELTE in the research of geothermal energy utilization and critical mineral raw materials to be of strategic importance. These areas play a key role in Hungary's security of supply and strengthening its industrial resilience, and can be the determining pillars of national economic development and social well-being in the coming decades. Sustainable results can only be achieved through joint efforts.
Finally, the participants agreed that the Sustainability Flagship Program launched at ELTE offers further opportunities for cooperation. It was agreed that many of the fields supervised by the SZTFH fit well with the objectives of the program, therefore it is justified to extend the previous faculty-level cooperation to the university level.
