ENGIE completes AssA Sol solar park in Brazil

Feb 24, 2026 (MarketLine via COMTEX) --

The new solar facility will supply electricity to around 850,000 people and created more than 4,500 direct jobs.

ENGIE has fully commissioned the Assú Sol Photovoltaic Complex in the State of Rio Grande do Norte following final regulatory approval from Brazilian authorities on 13 February 2026.

The complex consists of 16 solar plants with a combined installed capacity of 753MW.

Construction concluded in December 2025 after an investment of 3.3bn reais ($637m).

The facility spans 2,344 hectares (ha) and includes more than 1.5 million photovoltaic modules, along with 12,000km of cabling and 53km of internal access roads.

ENGIE noted that the site's electricity output is sufficient to meet the annual consumption needs of approximately 850,000 residents.

Development and construction took place over 30 months and resulted in the creation of more than 4,500 direct jobs.

ENGIE deployed several technological solutions during construction, including drone-based aerial mapping, automated graders using three-dimensional models and an automatic pile driving machine for solar projects.

The company has also undertaken local initiatives alongside the Assú Sol project.

The Assú Sol complex strengthens ENGIE's position in Brazil, where it operates a renewable energy portfolio totalling 15.7GW across hydropower, wind and solar assets. The company manages 3,200km of transmission lines and oversees 22 substations nationally.

ENGIE Renewable and Flexible Power senior executive vice-president Paulo Almirante said: "Assú Sol demonstrates our ability to deliver large-scale renewable projects with efficiency and industrial excellence.

"Commissioning our largest solar complex worldwide – on time, on budget and in close collaboration with local communities – reflects the know-how of our teams and the strength of our renewable strategy in Brazil and internationally."

In December 2025, ENGIE completed its Serra do Assuruá wind complex in Bahia with a capacity of 846MW.
