SMHI issued a yellow warning for strong wind gusts in Central Sweden.
SMHI has issued a yellow warning for strong wind gusts in Central Sweden. In order to quickly handle any disruptions to the electricity grid, Ellevio is increasing its preparedness in both the operations center and in the field. Enhanced preparedness applies in Värmland, Dalarna, Bohuslän, Skaraborg, Norra Halland and Gävleborg and applies from the afternoon of today, Thursday, March 12, to Saturday, March 14, at 4:00 PM.
SMHI's forecast for the coming 24 hours warns of strong winds of up to 24 m/sec in Gävleborg and along the Bohus coast, strong winds and snowfall in the southern Dalafjällen mountains, and 15-20 m/sec in other counties where Ellevio's customers are located.
What does this mean?
It is therefore expected to be windy, which could cause power outages when trees fall on power lines and other parts of the grid infrastructure. In order to be able to resolve any faults as quickly as possible, Ellevio is reinforcing the operations center where the grid is monitored and fault resolution is coordinated, but also with more field personnel ready to act if necessary. For safety reasons, no installers are sent out during the windiest times. In such cases, it may take longer to get the electricity back on if an outage occurs.
How can you prepare?
Intense weather events are becoming more common and can cause power outages, for example when trees fall on overhead lines. By being prepared, electricity customers can best cope with any disruptions.
Charge mobile phones and power banks in good time.
Make sure to have drinking water and food that does not require cooking at home.
Have candles, a flashlight, batteries, and a battery-powered radio on hand.
