The Australian sharemarket's selldown on Monday followed a negative lead from Wall Street in the wake of renewed trade tensions between the US and China. However, market watchers expect the latest bearish sentiment to be shortlived. It was prompted by the Trump administration's threat to impose a 100 per cent tariff on Chinese imports in response to the latter's move to restrict exports of rare earths. The general feeling is that the market rout that followed the Trump administation's 'liberation day' tariffs announcement in early April will not be repeated..
