The Productivity Commission contends that federal government intervention is needed in order to make Australian homes more resilient to the impact of climate change. This includes taxpayer funding to retrofit existing homes - including social housing - more climate-resilient, and assisting homeowners to rebuild to a higher level of resilience following a natural disaster. The Commission has warned of the economic cost and the impact on productivity if such action is not taken..
