Hybrid Renewable Energy Powers HolcimaEUR(TM)s Mobile Concrete Plants

Feb 02, 2026 (MarketLine via COMTEX) --

Holcim is supplying transmission infrastructure projects in New South Wales, including the HumeLink project and works in the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

Holcim is supporting major transmission infrastructure across New South Wales, including HumeLink and installations across the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

HumeLink is a new transmission line connecting Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle across regional NSW, strengthening the state's electricity network and supporting the transition to renewable energy.

To enable these projects in remote locations, Holcim has deployed renewable-powered, hybrid mobile concrete plants that deliver reliable production while significantly reducing fuel use and emissions.

Holcim currently has three hybrid mobile plants in service, with additional plants set to go in the coming months to support transmission projects and other works across the network.

Each plant operates on a hybrid renewable energy system combining solar, battery storage and generators. In most situations, solar is the primary power source, with batteries supporting continuous operation and generators used only when required.

This approach has reduced generator run times to between 14 and 20 hours per month, while still supplying power 24 hours a day.

December performance data highlights the impact of this configuration:

Central West Orana and HumeLink East sites avoided over 10 tonnes of CO2 in a single month

Solar power generation exceeded or closely matched generator power usage

Thousands of litres of diesel were saved across sites

Beyond environmental benefits, the hybrid systems are improving day-to-day site conditions.

Running our mobile plants in this configuration not only enables us to offer a more sustainable way of making concrete in rural areas, it's also delivered great feedback from our operational teams. Having power available 24 hours a day and reducing generator noise makes a real difference on site.

Exploring renewable energy solutions and reducing CO2 intensity across operations is a key pillar of Holcim's NextGen growth strategy, helping customers reduce emissions on major infrastructure projects while maintaining productivity and reliability.

Holcim's hybrid mobile plants are delivered in partnership with Blue Diamond (battery systems and generators) and Makinex Renewables (solar solutions), ensuring strong performance today and into the future.
