Convicted insider trader Rodney Forrest is challenging the six-year jail term that was imposed on him by Federal Court Justice Robert Bromwich earlier in the year. Forrest purchased $2.7m worth of Platinum Asset Management shares between August and September 2024, knowing Regal Partners was about to make a takeover offer for it, while he urged others to buy Platinum shares ahead of the takeover bid being made public. Forrest's lawyers contend Bromwich should have taken Forrest's early guilty plea into account when deciding the length of his sentence, while they are also arguing that his actions were opportunistic rather than planned out.
