Markets wobble, Aussie surges on EU trade threat

May 25, 2025 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --

Futures pricing suggests that Australian equities will shed about 0.4 per cent when the market opens on Monday. Local investor sentiment is likely to be impact by a negative lead from Wall Street, which fell on Friday after the Trump administration proposed a 50 per cent tariff on imports from Europe amid growing trade tensions; the trade fears also boosted the Australian dollar against its US counterpart. Local investors will also be awaiting Wednesday's release of official inflation data for April, which could strengthen the case for further monetary policy easing. The S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.15 per cent to 8,360.9 points on Friday..
