Miners stay top of ATO's taxpayer table

Oct 02, 2026 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --

The Australian Taxation Office's latest corporate tax transparency report shows that the nation's largest companies paid $87.5bn in taxes during 2024-25. Rio Tinto topped the list with $5.2bn in taxes, ahead of BHP with a total company tax bill of $3.9bn. The Mining, Energy and Water sector contributed 41.1 per cent of the corporate tax take, or $35.9bn; this was $12.5bn lower than previously, due to weaker commodity prices. The data also shows that the petroleum resource rent tax raised $1.9bn in 2024-25..
