The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) that had been stranded at various Nigerian seaports.
The intervention is expected to accelerate critical power projects nationwide and help the NDPHC avert potential losses running into billions of naira.
NDPHC Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, in Lagos.
Adighije commended the NPA for facilitating the recovery and clearance of the equipment, saying the intervention would help strengthen Nigeria's power infrastructure and prevent further delays to ongoing projects.
She said the equipment was required for critical NDPHC projects and that prolonged delays could have disrupted project timelines, increased costs and affected efforts to improve electricity supply.
According to her, the NPA intervention had saved the NDPHC billions of naira in potential losses while ensuring that contractors could access essential project materials.
Adighije called for stronger collaboration among the NDPHC, NPA and other relevant agencies to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure the timely clearance of power-sector equipment at the ports.
Responding, Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA's commitment to supporting projects that advance national development.
He said reliable electricity remained essential to economic growth, industrialisation and improved living standards, assuring the NDPHC that the Authority would continue to facilitate the smooth movement and clearance of critical equipment.
Dantsoho also pledged continued collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders to support infrastructure projects and strengthen the Nigerian economy.
