OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warns positive AI economic impact 'a lot harder' to achieve

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has told a Commonwealth Bank Accelerate AI event that artificial intelligence is going to be positive and negative for the employment market, but that the outcome will "likely to be very different than we thought". Speaking with CBA CEO Matt Comyn, Altman said that AI's promised economic gains are proving to be more elusive than expected, and that it is proving to be "maybe a lot harder" to translate into real-world impact than the tech industry had anticipated. Meanwhile, he told the event that Australia has the potential to be a "data centre capital of the world", with Altman noting its abundance of natural resources and energy..
