German sports apparel brand Puma is working with Finnish textile innovator Spinnova to create prototype products from its wood-derived fibre Spinnova that can be integrated into Puma's Sportstyle product line in future.
The collaboration involves Woodspin, Spinnova's joint venture with Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano, which manufactures the Spinnova fibre.AA
The agreement between Puma and Woodspin entails a long-term commitment to secure quantities of the fibre for production.A
The arrangement is encapsulated in a letter of intent (LOI), which outlines the non-binding terms for reserving production capacity of the Spinnova fibre from Woodspin.A

Notably, Spinnova's production process generates no waste by-products, while the resultant Spinnova fibre boasts exceptionally low CO2 emissions and water usage.AA
Moreover, this innovative fibre is both biodegradable and recyclable. The mechanical methodology employed imparts a natural cellulosic fibre appearance and texture akin to that of cotton.A
