Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Wednesday that he would convene a productivity summit in August, with the Productivity Commission slated to produce a report ahead of the summit. The Comission is expected to use the report to call for a phasing out of tax breaks for electric vehicles, which have proven to be more costly to the budget than expected, along with ending other costly climate policies. Instead, the Commission is expected to recommend that the government expand its "safeguard" carbon emissions cap to more businesses and sectors, such as electricity and transport..
