May 15, 2025 (The West Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Iron ore exports from the Pilbara may be disrupted after the Maritime Union of Australia flagged industrial action at Port Hedland. The union will hold a ballot of members about whether to file an application to the Fair Work Commission for the right to strike, after failing to reach a deal with the Western Australian government regarding the housing and wages provisions of the Port Hedland general employee agreement. Atlas Iron and Mineral Resources ship iron ore via the Utah Point berth at Port Hedland; lithium and copper in turn are shipped via the Eastern Harbour facility at Port Hedland. There has been no industrial action in the Pilbara since 2008..
