Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that 2.38 million people went overseas in January. However, the number of Australians opting for overseas travel fell to an estimated 1.69 million in March. Paul Bloxham from HSBC says the post-Covid travel boom had been likely to slow down at some stage, and he notes that the financial market turmoil in the wake of the Trump administration's tariffs regime may see this gather pace. Bloxham says falling superannuation balances and consumer confidence may deter discretionary spending, while a weaker Australian dollar may prompt people to travel domestically rather than overseas..
