Teijin Frontier unveils stretch fabric with quick-drying capabilities

Jun 23, 2025 (MarketLine via COMTEX) --

Teijin Frontier, the Teijin Group's fibres and products converting company has introduced a new stretch fabric featuring an extra-fine, three-dimensional crimp structure.

The Teijin Frontier fabric is engineered to offer elasticity, combined with a soft and airy feel, and features a natural-looking uneven surface contributing to its lightweight properties. It also has quick-drying and moisture-wicking capabilities.

Teijin Frontier plans to release this fabric to the outdoor and sportswear markets both domestically and internationally in the Fall/Winter 2026 season.

The company also intends to broaden the fabric's use to lifestyle apparel, including innerwear and fashion clothing, with a sales goal of 100,000 metres in fiscal 2026, increasing to 1m metres by fiscal 2029.

Key features of the new Teijin Frontier fabric

The yarns used in the fabric have contrasting crimp structures that create an uneven surface with an appropriate balance of firmness and drape

The unique combination of crimps offers a sensation of lightness and breathability. The fabric's moisture management and quick-drying attributes, along with its fine texture, help reduce stickiness caused by sweat

The composition of the fabric includes environmentally sustainable materials: plant-derived substances for the core yarn and recycled polyester for the sheath yarn.

Teijin Frontier developed the new fabric as its SOLOTEX-based materials did not fully meet the evolving demands of consumers, who now want not only stretchability but also unique textures, appearances, and comfort.

The SOLOTEX fibres, which is composed of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), was developed to tackle issues related to strength, durability, weight, and colourfastness.

To address the evolving demand of consumers, the company utilised its advanced PTT spinning and drawing technologies to create a new side-by-side conjugate yarn. This yarn bonds two different PTT polymers in parallel to form an ultra-fine denier with robust crimps for superior stretching properties.

Through specialised yarn processing methods, this core yarn is paired with high-multifilament polyester fibres to produce a composite yarn with varied crimp sizes. When woven into a high-density fabric, it results in a material with a finely textured surface that feels light and soft aEUR" marking the development of Teijin Frontier's latest stretch fabric offering.

In December last year, Teijin Frontier developed a new material called Microft MX for sports and outdoor wear that is made from a combination of polyester and nylon filaments.
