Apr 08, 2026 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The United Services Union will ask the NSW Industrial Relations Commission to approve a 'splinter' award for local council workers in response to the Iran war-induced fuel crisis. The proposed temporary award conditions for more than 55,000 council workers in NSW would be in place for 12 months, and would be triggered when the price of unleaded petrol rises above $2 per litre. Amongst other things, the union wants council workers' fuel subsidies to be increased by 50 per cent during a fuel crisis event, as well as the right to work from home for up to five days per week and a four-day week for employees who cannot work from home..
