Unlocking the golden riches inside unwanted iPhones, laptops

Metallium believes it has found an economical and environmentally friendly method of extracting the gold that is used in laptops, mobile telephones and other electronic devices. It has been estimated that up to 500 grams of gold can be extracted from one tonne of waste electronic devices, with Metallium's technology attracting investor interest at a time when the price of gold is around $5,400 an ounce. Shares in Metallium have risen by more than 1,000 per cent in the past year; the technology it is using was developed by James Tour from Rice University in Texas..
