A BHP spokeswoman says it has strong contingency plans in place if members of the Electrical Trades Union at its Pilbara mines proceed with industrial action. The ETU's ballot of its members is slated to close on 25 March, and the union's national secretary Michael Wright says its entire membership supports the BHP workers. State secretary Adam Woodage says BHP has been "stonewalling" on the enterprise bargaining process for 12 months. The proposed industrial action by high-voltage electrical workers is part of a broader push to 'reunionise' the Pilbara. Meanwhile, workers at Glencore's copper refinery in Townsville will go on strike today..
