Mineral Resources is embroiled in an animal welfare dispute with cattle station owners in the Pilbara. Amongst other things, some pastoralists have contended that their cattle have died after eating waste materials from Mineral Resources' Onslow Iron project, while there have also been claims that cattle had no access to water during the construction of the company's trouble-plagued haulage road. Western Australia's Department of Mines, Petroleum & Exploration has held several investigations into the pastoralists' claims and found insufficient evidence to justify taking action against Mineral Resources..
